goat rocks 09
« on: September 25, 2009, 09:51:49 AM »
after 11 days of elk hunting i got back Sunday night we loaded packs and took off Monday morning our camp was about 8 1/2 miles in we got there late Monday afternoon while my uncle set up camp i took off to go glass spotted the goat we would end up shooting that night right before dark a few miles away. the next morning we took off in that direction we ended up finding him again at 2:30 bedded down on the snow. we put a good mile stalk to get as close as we could, it was still a long ways though we ranged it at 452 yards we weren’t gonna take the shot but we had about 20 mins of stacking packs and rocks to get a good rest he finally stood up and I took the shot. It worked out better then we could ever hope for first day of the hunt and it was over. It was hard to make the call to shoot because it was the only goat we saw so far but he was too big to pass on

Perfect hunt

Green score
        gross - 50 0/8
        net    - 49 6/8

He was 9 1/2 inches long with 5 7/8 bases

AWESOME GOAT DOBBY!

That is absolutely awesome, congrats on the perfect goat!  I certainly would not have passed on him either.  I know I'm not capable of a 450 yard shot but obviously you are so congrats!

yes a full body

i was ready to cut the the cape in half on the way down and just do a sholder mount, i had a full pack a full body cape plus head and horns i never weighed it when i got home but it was pushin 75-80 pounds.... for 8 1/2 miles i was getting to the point i could only go 100 yards befor i had to sit on a log to get the weight off i kept telling myself i never had to do it again  :chuckle:
